The Ridgeway
Length >60km
Max transport gap <20km
A walk of 136km between Overton Hill and Ivinghoe Beacon.
There are public transport links (32 locations, 2 matrices) throughout, though there are some long gaps in places. Swindon may serve as a base station in the west, as will Reading for the central section. The walk is accessible from anywhere in the Greater London conurbation.
Observations
The route links at Overton Down near its west end with the Wessex Ridgeway and at its eastern end with the Icknield Way Trail. These three walks, along with Peddars Way in the east, form the Greater Ridgeway route. Through-walkers on the Greater Ridgeway will probably find Tring station to be a more logical breakpoint and handover site between the Ridgeway and the Icknield Way trail.
