North Downs Way
Length >60km
Max transport gap <20km
A walk of 201km between Farnham and Dover.
This National Trail follows the North Downs and passes along the clifftops between Capel le Ferne and Aycliff. Public transport connections (50 locations, 3 matrices) are available throughout. Guildford, Sevenoaks and Maidstone are all candidates for base stations, though the entire route may be walked using anywhere in the Greater London conurbation as a base.
Observations
There is an approved alternative route between Boughton Aluph and Dover via Canterbury, which is longer (by about 10km) and less dramatic than the classic clifftop route. London-based walkers should note that the bus services at Westhumble and north of Westerham are Oyster-valid, though the train service at Westhumble is not.
