Monarch’s Way

Monarch’s Way

Length >60km
Max transport gap > 30km

A 936km walk between Worcester and Southwick, following the route taken (following the Battle of Worcester) by King Charles I (1600-49).

The route traces that of King Charles I as he fled from the battlefield at Worcester. Public transport connections (193 locations, 16 matrices) are generally available throughout, albeit with some significant gaps in the most rural areas. Base stations might include Telford, Birmingham, Moreton-in-Marsh, Bristol, Yeovil and Portsmouth, but the scattergun route provides challenges in this aspect too.

Observations

The gap of over 40km between the M3 and the A3(M) may be ameliorated by planning well for the once-a-week bus services in the area, or by calling a cab.
